Lang Van Featured in Woman’s World: Music as a Bridge Across Generations

We’re honored to share that Lang Van has been featured in Woman’s World with a beautiful article exploring how Vietnamese music continues to connect generations across the diaspora.

For over six decades, Lang Van has carried forward the vision of Mama Leonor, who founded the label in 1963 with a dream of preserving and sharing Vietnamese culture through music. Today, our catalog of classic recordings and contemporary works remains a living archive — one that speaks not just to nostalgia, but also to identity, memory, and the universal power of sound.

“Every generation has a distinct sound,” says Mimi Nguyễn, COO of Làng Văn, a Vietnamese-American cultural institution and music company. “When you listen to a song from the ‘70s or ‘80s, you not only hear the music. You hear how love, heartbreak, or longing was expressed in that moment in time. The choice of words, the instruments, the rhythms, they all tell a story of that era.”

The feature highlights how music serves as a bridge between past and present, carrying stories of migration, resilience, and belonging. Whether it’s a timeless ballad that reminds parents of home or a vibrant pop song that resonates with younger audiences discovering their roots, Lang Van continues to nurture connections across borders and generations.
